Who I am

I’m a freelance user experience (UX) design consultant with 17 years industry experience available for UX design freelance and contract work in Brighton, London, Sussex, Surrey, Kent and  South East UK.

By using research and design I can help you develop products that meet the needs of your customers.

If you like the sound of that and you’re a forward thinking organisation with some interesting projects lets talk further about working together.

This is how I work:

  • I always put the user at the heart of the project.
  • I’m a pragmatist by nature who understands business needs and requirements.
  • I work hard to find the ideal balance of needs through in depth user research and workshops leaving no stone uncovered.
  • I’m a creative thinker who loves solving problems and trying new things through my research and design work.
  • I love talking about my ideas and presenting them back to my clients.
  • I  can work autonomously but I work best when I’m part of a team working towards a common goal which is why I’m so passionate about the Agile and Lean approach to project delivery.

Recent Projects

"Mat is an experienced and versatile UX Designer who fits perfectly into an agile development team. He ensures that all activity is focussed on delivering value to the end user"

− Martyn Evans - Pearson Consultant Product Owner

"I hired Mat to work with a major publishing company who had some complex information architecture problems, not to mention internal politics. He quickly gained the client's trust with his calm and knowledgable approach, and provided great value for money as he could operate autonomously.

With his grasp of agile methods Mat was able to integrate his work with our development team and processes. Not many people have the range of skills that Mat has so I expect I'll work with him again in future."
